My Journey to Systems Discovery
In 2008, I had to drop out of the university where I was studying Biochemistry, not because I was dull, on the contrary, I was the best student in year 2 with a CGPA of 4.89/5.0.
That’s shocking right? Who in his right senses would do that? I took that step after I got a leading from God that I was pursuing my ambition and not His vision for my life. Meanwhile, I have always loved teaching and educating people, but I didn’t see myself making a living out of teaching.
After I dropped out, I stayed at home for another 2 years, wrote my 5th U.T.M.E and gained admission to study Chemistry Education at The University of Lagos. It was as though 4 years of my life were wasted. The year I finally gained admission was the same year my ex Biochemistry students were graduating.
But here’s the beautiful thing, in the midst of the 2 years while I was at home, that was when I found my first business, The Rock Empire Academy, an education institute where we empower students for academic and personal success.
After I gained admission, I was in a dilemma to choose between leaving my business to pursue my career or finding out how I can run both without sacrificing one for the other. Guess what, I chose to keep both.
Here was What I did!
I had to shuttle between Ogun State(where I live) and Lagos State for 4 years to keep both alive. It was in this process I met a mentor who introduced me to the power of business systems.
I started learning and putting the principles I learnt to work, and they worked. I was able to build systems in my business which allowed our processes to run when I was not around. The business grew profitably even in my absence that we were able to scale to having another branch in the city to make two(2) centres.
My academics didn’t suffer as you would have thought. I applied the same systems principle in my academics and finished as the best graduating student in my department. I was retained by the university, had my Master’s program on scholarship and topped the entire Faculty as the best graduating student with a C.G.P.A of 4.73/5.0.
I proceeded for my PhD at the University of Ibadan where I also made 7.0 C.G.P.A in my coursework while doing business at the same time.
